Homemade Granola

Granola is delicious and versatile but kind of expensive in my opinion. It seemed pretty simple so I decided to try and make my own! I found a basic recipe here and tweaked it slightly. This recipe made these two jars full plus about 1/4 of a cup I ate right away >_<

Here's what i did this time around

  • 3 cups rolled oats
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup dried dates
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup  almonds

-Mix the dry ingredients together e.g oats, almonds, salt, cinnamon (not the dried fruit or chocolate!)
- In a separate bowl combine the wet- honey, brown sugar, oil, vanilla.
-Next combine wet and dry mixtures until well coated.
-Spread it thinly onto a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes (Oven at 300 Fahrenheit)
-When its done let it cool before mixing in dried fruit and chocolates.

Voila you have granola. you can switch up the dried fruit and chocolate to anything you like. I think next time I want to add dried figs and more of an assortment of nuts.
